Moment of inertia of a Micro metal Gearmotor

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find the moment of inertia and armature inductance of 15:1 Micro Metal Gearmotor HPCB 12V (pololu item: 4788 ). Is there any document about this subject or any way to measure them ?

Thank you.

Hello.

We have not characterized the moment of inertia for our motors yet, but you could approximate that using the dimensions of the output shaft. The output shaft is made of stainless steel, and its dimensions can be found in the motor’s dimension diagram, which is available on the product page under the resources tab. By the way, I would expect the rotor inertia to become negligible once anything of substantial inertia is attached to your motor or once your motor is loaded in a real application.

The inductance of our 12V HPCB Mirco Metal Gearmotors is about 2.2 mH. You could measure that on your particular motor by probing the motor’s terminals using an LCR meter.
