Hello, I bought some 5198 motors to use with the Pimoroni Motor2040 board for a vehicle. However, after a short use they don’t seem to be working anymore? I can confirm I swapped cables with the other two motors I have that work fine.
Is there a troubleshooting guide to getting these working again? I’d be surprised if they’re fully dead, but I can’t figure out why they would just stop working.
Hello.
Can you provide more details about your application and how long the motors had been working for? Pictures would be useful as well.
If you disconnect any load from the output shaft and connect the motors directly from an appropriate power supply (no driver circuit), are there any signs of life (current draw, audible noise, heat, etc.)?

The motors had maybe had a few test runs for a few minutes each. I have 6 pin JST connectors between the motor2040 and the motor.
Are you suggesting I connect to the power and ground pins on the encoder? Or the motor itself? Do I need to disconnect the encoder to get to it?
To clarify, I am suggesting you remove the motors from the rest of your setup and test them separately by connecting a power supply to the motor terminals. If you are using our JST SH-style connector cables, the red and black wires are connected to the motor terminals as shown in this photo from the product page.

Nothing happens when I connect the red/black up to a 5v supply. Seems like they’re fried?
Can you post some pictures of your setup and let me know what you’re using for your power supply? Also, what was your applied load during your tests?
