Is 3.3v output on G2 driver enough to power Pi Pico?

Hi there,

I purchased a few 100ma step-down voltage regulators for powering my pico - not realizing that my motor driver has a 3.3v out pin. On the description page it says a few milliamps - and after reading up a bit it seems the pico draws between 20 and 40ma.

Just wondering if I can use the 3.3v output on the driver to directly power the pico and save a little space in my project.

Thanks!

I did just test it out and it seems to have worked well! My pico fired up and was able to drive a motor while at the same time being powered by a safe voltage provided through the G2 driver. Awesome feature!

Hello.

I am glad to hear that the 3.3V output pin on our G2 High Power Motor Drivers seems to be working for you, but a Raspberry Pi Pico is probably around the limit of what that pin can handle. We would generally recommend using a separate power source/regulator for the microcontroller instead.
