dual-g2-high-power-motor-driver-rpi - Driver Fault

I have a #3754 Pololu Dual G2 High-Power Motor Driver 18v22 installed as a hat on my RaspberryPi.

The Dual G2 High-Power Motor Driver uses output 1 and 2 and each goes to a high torque motor - Denso 12V motor (730557-7030, 162000-2241).
These motors were originally part of the ‘Eddie Roboto’ kit sold by Parallax. Eddie Robot Platform information — Parallax Forums

When I run the sample program from github (GitHub - pololu/dual-g2-high-power-motor-driver-rpi: Python library for the Pololu Dual G2 High Power Motor Drivers for Raspberry Pi · GitHub), I’m getting a console message:Motor 1 reverse

Hello.

It seems like your post might be incomplete, but in general a good first step if you are having trouble with these drivers is to disconnect the motors and run the example program from our library to see how the console and the LEDs on the board behave. The console should report “Motor 1 forward” followed by “Motor 1 reverse” then “Motor 2 forward” and “Motor 2 reverse,” and the green and red indicator LEDs for each channel should turn on and off in the corresponding order.

If you run the example program and get different behavior, can you provide more details about your setup (like how you are powering the driver and your Raspberry Pi) and post some pictures that show all of your connections, including close-ups of both sides of the motor driver board?

Thanks Patrick, yes - my message got clipped and I couldn’t edit. I had been getting a clicking noise on the motors which I diagnosed as the system being under powered and in process of debugging used the wrong battery. Anyway - I have ordered a replacement board and will be trying again with the correctly sized power source.

It is still not entirely clear to me what happened. How did you conclude your board is damaged?

If you still have any doubts about your setup, you are welcome to post more information along with pictures like the ones I suggested previously before you actually try the replacement board.
