DRV 8825 with 3rd Party Stepper Motor

Hello,

Since my stepper motor is a 3d party motor and doesn’t follow the same color pattern I’ve had trouble trying to determine how to hook up the motor to the ramps board the DRV 8825 is attached to. I have information about the positive and negative wires for coil A and B but I haven’t been able to find out which wire to attach where. On the related project page I can see that I need to connect it to either 1 or 2 but I don’t like the 50/50 chance of breaking something.

Does anyone know which is the positive one?

Hello,

You should not be at risk of breaking anything by connecting the two wires form a motor coil one way or the other. As long as you have each coil’s wires identified, you should not have any problems no matter what polarity you connect the coils. If you find the stepper motor is turning in the wrong direction from what you want, you can simply reverse the polarity of one coil wire pair and it will change the direction of the motor.
