Changing only gears on micro metal gearmotors

Hi,

I have some 50:1 and 100:1 HP micro metal gear motor. After having lots of fun with them it I noticed that the gearbox’s cogs of one of the 50:1 motors got a broken tooth. The cog is the one that is directly attached to the output shaft. I noticed that this cog looks the same for 50:1 and 100:1 motors. Therefore I want to ask two questions:

  • Is this cog attached to the output shaft indeed the same in the 50:1 and 100:1 versions?
  • If the answer to the above is true: Is there a way to take this intact cog from the 100:1 motor gearbox and install it in the 50:1 gearbox?

Thanks,
Yinon

Hello, Yinon.

Those two gearboxes do use the same final gear press fit onto the output shaft, so you might be able to swap the final gear and output shaft, but please note that the gearbox is press fit together, which makes disassembly and re-assembly very challenging. If you still want to try it, I recommend starting with the one that is already damaged so you can see what the process is like before you risk your good gearmotor.
