Can I use 8 x AA alkaline batteries (Duracell) to power my Motoron shield?

I moved your question into a new thread since it seems unrelated to the troubleshooting in the original thread.
Eight AA alkaline batteries could be okay. The nominal voltage for AA alkaline batteries are 1.5V, so eight cells gets you to 12V which is well inside the Motoron’s operating range, though depending on the details of what you want to do, you might be better served using some NiMH batteries instead, which are also available in AA cells.
