A4988 GND question?

Hi All,

I’m after some clarity to a question.

I’m looking at purchasing the A4988 and I’m trying to understand the wiring of the logic supply and motor supply.

From looking at the simple wiring diagram it clearly shows both supplys are NOT connected together.
My question is, should the GND of the logic supply be connected to the GND of the motor supply. On a number of occassions I see reference that these SHOULD be connected together.

Please can you confirm which answer is correct. I’m concious of floating loops etc… and potential damage to the board.

Hello, Steve.

In most cases, you should have a common ground between all of the components in your system. In this case the grounds are all connected through the common ground plane of the A4988 carrier board.
