Dear Pololu,
I see this motor ( 34:1 Metal Gearmotor 25Dx67L mm HP 12V with 48 CPR Encoder )
Pololu - 34:1 Metal Gearmotor 25Dx67L mm HP 12V with 48 CPR Encoder
is taking 5A on stall, but with encoders it uses those light jumper cables
to supply motor power.
Why do you think these cables could transmit 5A at 12V and what could be done about that?
Pavel.
Hello, Pavel.
Stall is not an intended or appropriate operating point for these motors, and as we say on the product page, stalling these motors at 12V can result in rapid (potentially on the order of seconds) thermal damage to the motor windings and brushes. In general, we recommend keeping continuously applied loads under around 25% of the stall torque, which corresponds to current draw of around 1-1.5A, and the motor cable can handle this kind of current just fine.
