1 RPM DC motor for project

Hello, can anybody advise which DC motor that can 1 rpm or 2.5 with low torque as its for a art project, some what confused with so much choice. Thanks would greatly appreciate any help.

Hello.

“Low torque” is subjective, so I’m not sure what that means without context, but something like our 6V LP 1000:1 Micro Metal Gearmotor (which is one of our slowest options) has a free-run speed of 13 RPM at 6V. Without additional gearing, you would have to run it a very low voltage to get 1 RPM (around 0.5V), which might not be reliable, but 2.5 RPM should be achievable. Depending on how precise and consistent you need the speed, you might need to use a version with encoders and use closed-loop speed control.

Alternatively, you might consider a stepper motor. Since stepper motor control is control is inherently position based, you wouldn’t need to use feedback and can run them at very low speeds. There are a couple trade-offs though. For example, you might not be able to get as smooth of motion at very low speeds (although microstepping can help), and they can produce a high pitched whine. Also, if you are new to stepper motors, controlling them can be a little more complicated than brushed DC motors since it involves more than just applying a voltage across the leads, but we have several different stepper motor drivers and USB-configurable stepper motor controllers that can make that easier.
