Bought my 15 yo son this Zumo kit for Christmas, and he has successfully put it together. Also purchased the Vishay IR Receiver Module TSOP38438 with an IR remote. He doesn’t know where to install the receiver module. Can’t find any directions. Can anyone please help?

If you are connecting an additional sensor, you will need to free up one of the AVR’s I/O pins. You can find some descriptions of what each pin is currently used for and how to free them up in the “Adding electronics” section of the Zumo 32U4 Robot user’s guide.
If you have not seen it, you might also find our “RemoteControl” example in the Zumo 32U4 Arduino library helpful. Instead of using an additional sensor, this example uses one of the IR proximity sensors on the Zumo 32U4’s sensor board to detect and decode commands from an IR remote.
