Just got my AVR programmer 2.1 and installed the USB AVR Program and excitedly plugged in my new programmer… and nothing… Windows does not bong and recognize a new device, nothing shows up in the Device Manager and the control program will not connect with it. Let me know what to do next.
The most common cause of a USB device not showing up is probably the USB cable; some cables are only intended for charging and lack the required lines for data communication. Could you test your USB cable with a different device to confirm it is capable of data transfer and try some different cables and USB ports if possible? Can you describe what the LEDs on the programmer are doing when you plug it in to USB?
Checked this first as I have done this before. Cable is fine. I’ve gotten things to partially work by simply pulling the micro-usb connector slightly back from firmly seating. Doesn’t seem to have a good connection when fully seated. I can auto-detect the processor, I can set fuzes but I can’t program. Working on a home spun design using ATMEGA-328P. Formerly using USB-ASP programmers and new to this programmer. Also a mechanical engineer, but geek factor is pretty high, but my programming skill are on par with my soldering skills…
We test each board before it ships, so I’m still inclined to suspect the cable if you’re getting an unreliable USB connection. However, if you’re confident that’s not the problem and continue to have issues with the programmer, please email us with your order information and a link to this thread and we can look into getting you a replacement.
Well, to be honest… I have 3 boards in various states of build from bare to fully done. I can’t communicate with any of them between 3 USBASP programmers and the Pololu programmer… I have a board that someone else built up and all of the programmers can communicate just fine with it. It’s either the JCL boards or my soldering or both. I know for sure my first board like this last year programmed instantly. I don’t know what might have changed in the last year.
