When i connect my Pololu Maestro to my laptop i get a windows device descriptor request error
if i try and connect it to my desktop it is not even seen, i have tried 2 different leads one is new

Is the green LED on the Maestro blinking slowly when connecting the USB cable to your computer? If so, that indicates that the Maestro has not received a particular message from the computer which confirms that the drivers are installed correctly. The most common cause of that problem is actually the USB cable: some USB cables are only intended for charging and do not have the require data lines for communication with the computer. Could you check whether your USB cables can communicate with other devices? If you have any additional USB cables, could you try them as well?
