Use a 2s lipo with Zumo 2040

Hello, I just got a Zumo 2040 and was wondering if I could simply solder an xt30 connector to the regular battery connectors and use a 2s lipo instead of AA batteries, there are 2 main reasons for this, to make the robot lighter and so the motors have more current available. Any help will be much appreciated, thanks!

Hello.

Powering the Zumo with a 2S LiPo battery should generally be okay. One thing to keep in mind though is that the motors are intended for operation at 6V. Higher voltages will result in higher speeds and more torque, but they can start negatively affecting the lifetime of the motor, and they can also put the motor at higher risk of catastrophic failure when exposed to excessive loads. If you want to avoid those effects, you might consider limiting the maximum duty cycle you so that the average applied voltage stays around 6V.

Thanks! I regularly overvolt the motors with 2s lipos when building line follower robots, worst case I simply change the motors, my main worry was the electronics, but it seems like they will be fine
