Is it possible to swop out the zumo shield board for a 32U4 Board.?

Yes, you can swap out the Zumo Shield for the Zumo 32U4 board. Along with that, you will probably want to replace some of the supporting components. Desoldering and resoldering the motors you currently have might prove challenging and you will need motors with backshafts if you want to use the encoders on the Zumo 32U4 board. In addition, you might want to change the blade and front sensor array.
You might also consider just getting the full Zumo 32U4 Robot Kit and motors I mentioned previously; since you are already replacing everything but the chassis, sprockets and tracks. This would give you two functioning robots at a difference of about $25 .
