The connection to the device was lost

Connecting the Pololu AVR programmer to my laptop (USB); the device is connected and blinking green and yellow leds.

Once I connect my target device to the Pololu AVR programmer, The device looses connection, the green and yellow leds stop flashing and the red led blinks.

I’ve checked the Pololu to target board SPI connections and they are good.

Could you post some pictures of your setup that show all of your connections? What is your target device and is it being powered by a separate source?
