SV-168 Turning off when powering motor

I just received the SV-168 which i will be using to make a mini sumo. I tried running a small motor with the sample program that is included with the board, but it only powers the motor for a few seconds, then turns off.

I was wondering, can i power the board off of a seperate power supply then the motors? If so how. Thanks

Hello,

What kind of power supply are you using, and how much current do you expect your motors to draw? The only reason the SV-168 should turn off is if the supply voltage drops too low due to a high load, so this is what you would expect if your batteries are too weak or not fully charged.
