What is the safe tolerance between two of these encoders mounted linearly in a robot chassis
if placed too close to each other will the interference results in false counts?

I moved your post to its own thread since it seems more appropriate.
Placing two magnetic encoders too close together could result in false encoder counts. We have not determined how close together magnetic encoder disks like those on the Balboa can be. However, the faces of the magnetic disks on the Balboa are 4mm apart and we have not had any noticeable interference issues with that robot. If you post which magnetic encoders you plan on using and how far apart you plan to place them, I might be able to give you an idea if it seems reasonable.
