I’m running an S18V20F12 with 20V in and around 2A output, and I’d like to give it some help to run cooler. It’s in a tight space where forced air would be very difficult, but a thermal connection to a piece of metal is feasible. But since there are no large flat contact areas on the regulator, that thermal connection would have to be through a squishy gap-filling type thermal pad. Anybody know whether that’s a feasible approach with this part?
We have not tested any of our regulators with squishy thermal pads or compounds, so we cannot say how well it would work. If you do try it, please let us know how it goes! Alternatively, the large inductor is one of the hottest parts on the board, so just heatsinking that might give some improvement.
