Pololu - A-Star 32U4 Micro
If we leave the reset pin floating, is there a problem or does it need to be grounded for consistent long term use with a jumper. We do have them periodically crash and they need to be programmed to fix them, resetting the computer controlling it does not seem to fix it.

You do not have to make any connections to the nRESET pin on the A-Star 32U4 Micro for basic use of the board. However, putting the board in bootloader mode (which is a common step for troubleshooting issues related to uploading code) requires connecting nRESET to ground twice within 750 ms. You can do that with a temporary jumper/wire, but it would be easier with a pushbutton or momentary switch.
