Do Pololu Carrier with Sharp GP2Y0D805Z0F Digital Distance Sensor 5cm need to use Arduino board?

The Sharp Digital Distance Sensors output a digital high or low at the supplied voltage (2.7 - 6.2 V), depending on whether it is sensing an object, independent of what it is connected to. You can use that signal however makes sense for your application, including by connecting it to an Arduino. See the product page for more info.
