I wanted to customize the parallax mini sumobot with DC motors instead of the servos that come with the kit. I also wanted to attach tank like treads instead of the wheels. Does anyone have any suggestions on wich products might work best?

I am not sure which parts would be easiest to use to convert the Parallax mini sumobot into a tracked robot. There are probably many ways you could go about doing it.
Instead of modifying the Parallax chassis, you might consider using the Parallax controller with a chassis like our Zumo Chassis Kit (No Motors), gearmotors like our 50:1, 75:1, or 100:1 HP micro metal gearmotors, and a motor controller like our Pololu Qik 2s9v1 Dual Serial Motor Controller.
