Optimal motor frequency

I am using your HP micro motors in combination with your TB6612FNG Dual Motor Driver Carrier (item 713). The driver is currently connected to an Arduino’s PWM pins operating at the standard 490Hz. Is that PWM frequency optimal for the motors/driver or should I increase the frequency? And, if so, to what?

Thanks.

Hi.

There should be no problems operating our TB6612FNG carrier with a PWM frequency of 490Hz. Generally, people like to use higher PWM frequencies (around 20kHz) to eliminate the high pitched whine that lower frequencies make. However, lower PWM frequencies can help reduce switching losses, so if you are fine with the noise, a lower frequency might be better.
