We are very excited about our new step-up/step-down voltage regulator S7V8A, an adjustable cousin of our S7V7F5 that can produce a regulated 2.5-8V output from a 2.8-11.8V input with a typical efficiency of over 90%. The tiny module can deliver 500 mA to 1 A across most combinations of input and output voltages.
The regulator uses a buck-boost topology to convert voltages both above and below the set output, which offers a great deal of flexibility when choosing a power supply. For example, you can use this regulator to generate a 5V rail for your system from a four-cell battery pack that might be at 6 V with fresh alkalines or around 4 V with partially discharged NiMH cells.
