We have revised our DRV8825 stepper motor driver carrier board slightly and made it available in two variations: with the higher-current DRV8825 or the lower-cost DRV8824. If you do not need the higher-current capabilities of the DRV8825, the DRV8824 can be used as a more affordable drop-in replacement. It can deliver up to around 0.75 A per coil (up to 1.2 A with sufficient additional cooling), so it is appropriate for most of our stepper motors, and its larger current sense resistors allow for improved microstepping performance at lower currents.
The revision to the carrier board is a minor change that allows it to be more of a direct substitute for the A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier in systems designed specifically for the A4988. The new version is intended as a replacement for our original DRV8825 carrier version, which is on clearance and will be discontinued when stock runs out.
