Maximum voltage input S7V8F5

I have the S7V8F5 voltage regulator and the datasheet says the maximum input voltage is 11.8V. Common DC voltages are 5, 9 and 12V, anyone tried 12V on this one?

Hello.

I would just use a S9V11F5 regulator if you want 12V in. Also, do you really need the step-up/step-down as opposed to just a step-down regulator if you’re going from 12V to 5V?

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the reply.

I’m mainly using the S7V8F5 with batteries. To be flexible, I used the step-up/down cause I wasn’t sure whether to use Lithium 3.6V batteries, or 4.5-6V batteries. There is an option to use a regular power supply now as well, so was just wondering whether 12V would be within the bounds, or whether best to stick with <11.8V.

I recommend keeping the supply voltage less than 11.8V, and I especially do not recommend using the S7V8F5 with 12V batteries since batteries can significantly exceed their nominal voltage when fully charged.
