LPY510AL Gyro - How long does power down/up take?

Hi!

How long does it take to power down/up the LPY510AL Gyro? I changed from a tiny85 to a tiny84 so now I’ve got the pin to do it, but couldn’t find anything in the data sheet.

Is it worth it to power down ~45 ms out of 50?

Thanks
Doug

Hello, Doug.

Unfortunately, all of the information we have about that sensor is from the datasheets, so I do not know how long the gyro takes to power down or up. However, I do think it might be beneficial to power it down if you are only measuring once every 50ms. You might try measuring with and without powering off the device and see if it effects the measurements collected.

Hi JeremyT

I’ll try that and report if I find anything interesting.

What about similar products? Are their times listed?

Thanks
Doug

The L3GD20H 3-axis gyro is our only gyro that specifies a turn-on time. According to the L3GD20H datasheet, the turn-on time to obtain a stable sensitivity after exiting power-down mode is 50ms, which might be too long for your application. Given that, the LPY510AL gyro might also have a similar turn-on time, so I do know how beneficial powering it off would be.
