L3G4200D - Failed to autodetect gyro type!

Hi everyone,
I just bought L3G4200D 3-Axis Gyro Carrier with Voltage Regulator (github.com/pololu/L3G , meaning
Arduino Uno/Duemilanove L3G4200D/L3GD20 board
5V → VIN
GND → GND
Analog Pin 5 → SCL
Analog Pin 4 → SDA
I used the Serial example from the package, tested with both L3G and L3G4200D libraries. Unfortunately I am getting “Failed to autodetect gyro type!” error and no reading is done. I also attached a picture of the setup, it is supposed to be the same as this pololu.com/picture/view/0J3508
I used the pins from the package without soldering them, could that be an issue?

Hi, Serkan.

Yes, your problem is most likely caused by not having soldered your header pins. Also, if you are planning on mounting the board in that orientation, you could just use the straight header pins.

Hi Derrill,
Thank you for your answer. I will solder them and then try again.
FYI, the sensor was more stable with the curved pins I used, the sensor was shaky with the straight header pins. Once soldered, obviously that problem will go away.
