L3G4200D 3-Axis Gyro Carrier, 3.3V operation?

I have a question how to connect this product if I do not want to use lever shifters pololu.com/catalog/product/1272
I have found such a information on the description page:
Alternatively, if you are using the gyro with a 3.3 V system, you can leave VIN disconnected and bypass the built-in regulator by connecting 3.3 V directly to VDD.
But I am afraid that it might be wrong because there are pull ups after logic translator which are connected to VIN?
Are You sure that I should not connect 3.3V to both VIN and VDD ?

Hello.

You should just connect 3.3 V to VIN and leave VDD disconnected. There will be a small voltage drop across the regulator, so the IC will not see the full 3.3 V, but you don’t need to worry about this since it works down to 2.5 V. Alternatively, you can connect 3.3 V directly to VDD and use your own pull-ups to 3.3 V on the I2C lines, but there really isn’t a good reason to complicate things like this.
