How to back lit LCD?

The older 2x8 LCD (silver) has provision for LED to back lit ??? I presume.
Any idea if this is so ??? What resistor value would be needed ??

Any sugestions ???

By the way there is plexiglass version with special luminescent additive “LISA” ( if I remeber right)- comes in variety of colours, you can see amazing luminescent signs which are clear translucent except lettring on them.
