GP2Y0D810Z0F with carrier board not detecting

I purchased the Sharp GP2Y0D810Z0F with carrier board to detect golf balls passing by. I am connecting it to an Arduino Uno. I have Vin connected to 5V, Gnd connected to ground and Out connected to a digital input.

The sensor doesn’t appear to be detecting objects correctly. The output only goes low when I put tinfoil in front of it and even then not as consistently as it should . It doesn’t detect my had other any other less reflective object.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello.

I am sorry you are having trouble with your Sharp sensor. Can you tell me what you are using to supply 5V to the sensor? Could you also post some pictures of your setup that show how you have it connected (including any soldered connections)?
