Extra passive Cooling D24V25F5

Hello,

Im planning to replace an old 5V PCB in a (commodore 64) powersupply with the D24V25F5
The system will be drawing between 1.5 and 2 A, and the input voltage will be between around 12V so within the specs.
However, the D24V25F5 will be mounted inside the current powersupply with less than normal airflow, so i want to put some extra (passive) cooling on to keep it from running too hot.

Are there special heatsinks for these type of stepdown regulators? Because i can’t seem to find much info online.

Hello.

We generally recommend using a more powerful regulator rather than trying to use heat sinks, especially if you are operating in an enclosed space with limited airflow. For your application, you might consider the slightly larger D36V28F5, which will run much cooler at 2A than the D24V25F5:

Thanks. That might indeed be a better solution.
