Chicken & egg: mounting a gearmotor with bracket

Hi,

I’m using the 37D gearmotor brackets to mount 4 19:1 motors to my robot chassis. I want to mount it so only the motor shaft sticks out the side of the chassis, so the bracket needs to mount close to the side, but not flush. I’d like to mount the motor to the bracket and then mount the motor to the chassis, but with a motor installed, it’s going to be extremely hard to get a screwdriver on a screw that would go through chassis bottom into the holes in the bracket. If I try to mount the bracket first, I won’t be able to get to the screws on the end to screw in the motor.

I’ve been scratching my head about this and I’m sure someone else has faced a similar problem. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hello, Mark,

One thing you could try is to reverse the screws so that they go through your chassis first, and then the bracket, so that the nuts are on the side of the motor; depending on your chassis, it might be easier to fit a wrench or a pair of pliers under the motor to hold the nut.

Do you have a picture of your chassis available?
