I am about to use the D42V110F12 Buck regulator for the first time and was wondering the best way to add a heat sink to this product.

We do not have any specific recommendations for adding a heat sink.
For reference, all of the performance metrics on the product page are for operation in an open, room temperature environment without additional cooling measures like heat sinks or forced airflow. In general, heat sinks should not be necessary unless you are pushing the performance limits of what the regulator can do or operating in adverse conditions (e.g. a tightly confined space with no air flow and a high ambient temperature).

The maximum achievable output current of these regulators varies with the input voltage but also depends on other factors, including the ambient temperature, air flow, and heat sinking. Here is a graph that shows maximum output currents that these regulators can deliver continuously at room temperature in still air and without additional heat sinking. If you really need to add an additional heat sink, don’t glue a heatsink directly onto the entire PCB. Instead, identify the components that are actually generating most of the heat and couple those to a heatsink or metal chassis. Mount the Pololu board to an aluminum plate/chassis. Use thermally conductive insulating pads where appropriate.
