Stopping motors with break 32 setting?

Using the smccmd utility its possible to set the break to 32 which is a full stop, does using this setting regularly have the potential to damage the motors? should we be using something not so sudden or is it fine to use it?

Hello.

The answer to that question depends on your system. It should be generally fine for a motor by itself, but you might want more gradual stopping for whatever is connected to your motor.

Note that the type of braking we’re talking about here is the same as you’d get if you held your two motor leads shorted together while trying to rotate the output shaft, so you can see for yourself what the effect is like. A brake value of 0 is equivalent to having the motor leads completely isolated from each other. A value between 0 and 32 is a blend of the two cases.
