Pololu Dual Serial Motor Controller Problem

Hi,

I built the Pololu Dual Serial Motor Controller (kit) and it seemed to work fine. Now a problem I’m having is that it starts to move and then stops. I suspect it might be over current? But why?
The motor I’m using is the Solarbotics RM3 driving the Tamiya gerabox which even at stall should only draw 0.8 A, well below the controller specs. If I mesure the current flowing is actually around .3 Amps.
Any suggestion? Overheating (it’s actually cold at touch).
Shall I add a L298N? How? Any PCB available?

Thanks

Michele

Hello,

It’s probably a power or noise problem. What are your power sources and what does the wiring look like? Can you show us a picture? Also, what changed when it stopped working? You definitely should be able to drive those motors without going to a beefier motor driver chip.

Jan,

you are right it was a noise problem. What changed was that I started using the same power supply for the Arduino and the motors. I separated them and all is well.

Thanks
