NEMA-17 stepper with A4983 stepper motor driver

Hello,
We would like to drive a Planetary Gearbox Stepper, from phidgets, with the A4983 stepper motor driver. Item nr 1202.

The motor is this one: phidgets.com/products.php?ca … ct_id=3313
Product Features of the gearbox stepper:

  • 991044/2057 :1 gearbox
  • NEMA-17 Bipolar 4-wire
  • Step angle: 1.8°
  • Working Torque: 50 kg-cm @ 2.5 Amps

Is the 2,5 Amp a problem for the A4983 stepper motor driver.

(PS we also asked this question by email.)

Hello,

Thank you for mentioning that you also sent an email.

You can use that motor with our driver if you do not need the full torque. The driver can deliver a maximum of 2 A per coil, but you will need a heat sink to get more than about 1 A per coil. Note that the driver has a current limiting feature that lets you specify the output current. You can find out more about it on the product page
