DRV8825 current limit

Is 10 amps from a PC PSU too much for DRV 8825 ?

Thanks in advance .

Hello.

It sounds like you might be worried about the power supply pushing current into the DRV8825; please note that this is not how the current from batteries works. The driver will draw what current it needs from the battery. Batteries do not “push” current through the driver, so as long as your battery has enough capacity to handle your motor, and it is in the correct voltage range for the driver, it should be fine.

Hello BrandonM ,
I’,m using this scheme ( https://www.robotgear.com.au/Cache/Files/ProductImageOriginals/1714_DRV8825%20wiring%20diagram.png ) and this DRV8825 (https://www.amazon.com/3D-CAM-StepStick-Electronics-Robotics/dp/B010MZ8T5K/ref=sr_1_1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1481292557&sr=1-1&keywords=drv8825) and this stepper motor ( https://www.amazon.com/Zyltech-Stepper-Motors-Connector-Printer/dp/B01GNAN2U0/ref=sr_1_9?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1481498472&sr=1-9&keywords=stepper+motor) and this shields to minimize wiring(https://www.amazon.com/LM-YN-Printer-Stepper-Extension/dp/B01LWO9DI7/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485977083&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=drv+8825+shield) . 1 of the 5 drivers is only working now . They just heat themself too fast , I’m using this code ( http://www.schmalzhaus.com/EasyDriver/Examples/EasyDriverExamples.html) . Can you please help me are these parts compatible and a solution for this to work without fast heating .
Thanks in advance

From your description of the problem, it sounds like you might not have set the current limits appropriately on your drivers. Since those are not our DRV8825 carriers, the formula for calculating the VREF voltage might be different. You might try either looking for the manufacturer’s information on the board or setting the current limit by measuring the current through a coil directly.
