What kind of acrylic cutting/assembly technique is this?

Hello

Recently I’ve been trying to find sites online that do custom acrylic laser cutting. Are the below products just cut from acrylic then also etched on the back of the acrylic – they have the effect I’m wanting to go for.

examples:
etsy.com/listing/103860530/ … o+necklace

etsy.com/listing/91494810/c … ome_active

Also, is it right that most of the cost in cutting acrylic is based not only on just the price of the sheet but also how long you have the laser cutting on the material? For pendants, I’d probably be needing to maximize as much as I can out of one sheet while also being cost effective.

I thought I’d ask this while getting my file ready to send for a quote : )

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our custom laser cutting service! The pendants shown in your examples look like they were laser-cut from mirrored acrylic sheets and laser-engraved from the back. We can certainly make parts just like them (we stock mirrored acrylic in several colors and can special-order others, or you may ship us your own material as well). You can see pictures of some of the materials we stock at https://www.pololu.com/docs/0J24/3 . You can also see pictures of laser-cut parts at https://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/749/pictures and some detailed descriptions of examples at the bottom of https://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/749.

In addition to the cost of the material, the price of laser-cut/engraved parts depends on how long it takes to cut and engrave the material. For the pendants in your example, most of the cost would come from the cutting/engraving time rather than the material cost. You can find a detailed description of our pricing at https://www.pololu.com/docs/0J24/2. Note that we typically do provide discounts on the cutting rate for larger orders, and we have a low minimum order of $25, which would cover at least a few copies of the pendants in your example.

Before you work on your file, please read about file setup at https://www.pololu.com/docs/0J24/5. It would be very helpful if you used different colors to distinguish cut lines from engraved areas. If this is your first time doing laser cutting, I recommend that you read our entire laser cutting guide in addition to the sections I’ve linked to above: https://www.pololu.com/docs/0J24.

Good luck with preparing your quote request, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
